Researchers have found that people who weigh weight every day can maintain their weight and even lower it. This is because weight scales can be a daily reminder for them in adjusting their eating behavior.
This certainly involves a little more exercise or keeping their eating healthier. On the other hand, participants who do not weigh weight every day really experience weight gain.
Researchers say those who don't weigh often don't feel the pressure to adjust their behavior because they are unaware of weight gain.
Quoted from the Daily Mail, this study examined 111 adults aged between 18 and 65 years. Experts analyze participants from mid November 2017 to early January 2018.
"People who weigh weight every day may exercise a little more the next day and they keep eating more carefully," said lead author, Jamie Cooper.
Michelle vanDellen, the author of the study in this study, said the findings support the theory of self-regulation.
"People will be more sensitive to the difference between them now and their future direction. When looking at it, it will tend to lead to changes in behavior," explained Michelle.
Researchers agree that weighing every day can lead to better health habits such as eating nutritious foods and exercising to avoid obesity.
Obesity is a major contributor to more than 200 conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and cancer. About 1.2 billion people worldwide are obese.
